Productivity of Pine Plantations during Reclamation of Sand Quarries

Restoration of lands disturbed by anthropogenic impact is currently the most urgent issue in light gradually decreasing area commercially valuable plantations. Reclamation quarries includes restoration artificial landscape carrying out various kinds measures. We have surveyed located northern districts Arkhangelsk region. These were used for sand mining construction roads federal and regional importance. No forestry activities carried one quarries. It was adopted as a control site abandoned to natural regrowth. Deciduous trees shrubs (birch, willow) some places grow there after decade half. In two other mechanical soil treatment seedlings Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) planted. This species planting on sandy soils form productive stands. Studies shown that young stands second age class quality II, with average forest inventory values diameter 14.6 cm, height 15.6 m stock 168 m3/ha. The plants are healthy, physiologically developed annual increment 56 cm over last decade. Forestry measures effectively development quarries, firstly, provide necessary optimal conditions growth plants, and, secondly, biologically areas land surface formed due reclamation. territories an excellent reserve increasing covered vegetation.
